A man who contaminated treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight minors and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She said the defendant went on to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the police a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
