Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group reach areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
